Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at BNI Sterling. After a wonderful year at BNI, it culminated in us enjoying our Christmas party at AllStar Bowling Holborn.  The food and drinks tasted particularly decadent when enjoyed on the back of a successful December.

Shelter from the Storm is a completely free emergency night shelter providing bed, dinner and breakfast for up to 50 homeless people in London every night of the year.

Chapter members donate personal funds to the charity each week, and Shelter from the Storm staff have joined us for breakfast to talk about their incredibly important work.

Breakfast, Business, and Banter. They're all on the table.

To set a base for the sake of elaboration; trust can be referred to as the degree of positive expectation that a person has of another person when a situation of risk is apparent. A level of risk is prevalent throughout all aspects of a particular business, whether internally, between staff members and departments, or externally between stakeholders or customer related interactions more specifically. ‘Trust’, in its true sense, takes a considerable amount of time to develop, yet it can be completely eradicated at the click of a finger. Trust is formed by blending equal proportions of consistency, competence, integrity, commitment, reliability and sincerity. Being the glue of relationships, trust is of paramount importance to establish sustainable business partnerships and working relationships.

Internally speaking, a top down approach is necessary to build a culture of reciprocal trustworthiness between all levels of the organization. In the fast paced modern business environment, there is a need for closer, more flexible relationships that assert and respond efficiently to change. When directive communication from upper to middle management is respected and has it's roots in integrity, there will be a supportive and motivational ethos that fuels the actions of tactical and operational business units. Internal departments require this mutual support to respond to the urgency placed on them by demanding consumers and the circumstantial demands that are present in a dynamic market place.

It is worth noting that the very nature of trust, in that it takes lengthy periods of time to develop, means that a short term compromise is required, in order to successfully get underway with the early stages of strategic partnerships. All parties involved initially should be able to place their trust in an agreed structure or a clear procedure that they are working on together. When the execution of plans match verifiable guidelines and the processes can be viewed as transparent, a level of personal trust can begin to supersede the trust in the procedures alone.  When personal trust develops within an organization, this will result in :

A willing reliance upon fellow staff members -> cooperative teamwork -> improved execution of calculated risks. 

Employees of an organization long for recognition, a significant voice and a position of relative stature. This being said, by instilling a community driven management style and offering workers a shared sense of ownership in company goals and mission, the amount of trust gained will be of astronomical proportions.It is all very well attempting to devise a blueprint of how to build trust between colleagues and trust in the business's mission; however it is dependent on the recruitment of staff that firstly; trust themselves and secondly have the capacity and willingness to trust others.


You cannot pour from an empty glass.


Externally speaking, your trustworthy organization, full of trustworthy people, needs to create an accurate perception of this ethos in the mind of the consumer, as well as ensure that they earn the trust of potential partners and associates. Essentially, the drivers of trust do not change and culminate in the consistent deliverance of promised value, demonstrating ethical business practices, consistently committing to the consumers needs and wants. The public in general have an urge to belong to something of substance, something that is aligned with their particular persuasions. With a vast array of choices available, where financial and time constraints are prodding them in the back to make a hasty decision, they are going to turn to the businesses that they can trust.

So as you can see upon reaching this point, the blog title is not ambiguous after all.
